Scarlett-GTS - My Little Crush
By: KrisSalvatierra

Rachel was just an ordinary girl, living her ordinary life. She had a crush on her neighbor, a boy named Daniel who was two years older than her. He was cute, funny, and always kind to her. She daydreamed about him often, imagining herself growing up and becoming his girlfriend one day. Rachel knew that she was only in fourth grade, but she couldn't help the flutterings in her stomach whenever she saw him.

One day, as Rachel was walking home from school, she noticed something strange about Daniel's house. It seemed bigger than usual. She squinted her eyes, trying to figure out what was going on. As she got closer, she saw that there was a huge pile of boxes and furniture outside his front door.

Her heart began to race as she realized that something must be happening to Daniel's family. Maybe they were moving or maybe something worse. She felt a sense of dread wash over her as she approached the house.

"Hey Rachel," Daniel greeted her with a smile as he saw her walking up. "What's up? Why aren't you at school?"

Rachel's eyes widened in fear. "I-I saw your house," she stammered, pointing at the huge pile outside. "What's going on?"

Daniel sighed, looking at the pile of boxes sadly. "We're moving in with my grandpa," he explained. "Our family is just too small for this house now."

Rachel felt a pang of disappointment in her chest. Moving away meant they wouldn't be neighbors anymore. She wouldn't be able to see him every day or play with him in the park. Tears began to well up in her eyes as she realized that her little crush was about to be taken away from her.

"I'm sorry Rachel," Daniel whispered, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I wish there was something I could do."

Rachel sniffed back her tears, trying to be brave. "It's okay," she said, forcing a smile. "I understand."

They stood there for a moment, neither of them knowing what to say next. Then, suddenly, Daniel's eyes widened in surprise. "Hey Rachel," he said, looking at her intently. "I've got an idea."

Rachel looked up at him, her eyes full of hope. "What is it?" she asked eagerly.

"Why don't we make a promise?" he suggested with a smile. "A promise to stay in touch and visit each other even though we're moving apart?"

Rachel nodded eagerly, tears of joy filling her eyes. "Okay," she whispered. "I promise."

Daniel stepped forward, his face serious. "Me too," he said, squeezing her shoulder gently. "No matter what happens, we're going to be friends forever."

With that, they sealed their promise with a firm handshake. And although they knew things would never be the same again, they also knew that they had each other, and that was something that could never be taken away.

As Rachel turned to walk home, she felt a glimmer of hope inside her. Maybe things weren't so bad after all. Maybe, just maybe, everything would work out somehow. She couldn't help but smile as she thought about her new friend Daniel and all the adventures they would have together in the years to come.
