Pests or Pets

By Chooch420

It was a dark and stormy night. Lightning flashed across the sky, casting eerie shadows on the buildings that stood tall against the blackness of the sky. The rain came down in sheets, making it impossible for anyone to be outside without an umbrella or some sort of protection. In one particular apartment building, on the 20th floor, a young man sat alone in his living room watching TV. He lived alone and preferred it that way; he was content with his solitude and didn't need anyone else in his life. But as he sat there watching the storm ravage the outside world, he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease creeping into his bones. It wasn't just the howling wind or the relentless rain—there was something else out there, something beyond his understanding. Something that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up and made his heart race with fear. He shook his head, trying to dismiss the thought, but it persisted, gnawing at him like an old wound that just wouldn't heal.

The young man stood up and walked over to his window, pulling back the curtains to get a better view of the storm. As he stared out into the abyss, he saw something move in the corner of his eye. He turned his head quickly, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe it was just his imagination playing tricks on him, he thought. He shook his head again and turned back to the TV, trying to distract himself from the eerie feeling that had taken hold of him. But just as he settled back into his seat, he heard a faint scratching sound coming from the other room. His heart raced again as he jumped up from his seat and ran into the hallway toward the source of the noise. As he got closer, he could hear it clearer—a faint, high-pitched squeaking coming from under his bedroom door.

Taking a deep breath, he slowly pushed the door open, bracing himself for whatever might be on the other side. His eyes widened in terror as he saw a small, furry creature crawling out from under his bed. It was about the size of a mouse, with beady black eyes and a long, scaly tail. It looked up at him, its tiny body trembling in fear. The young man took a step back, his heart pounding in his chest. He didn't know what to do—should he kill it or try to help it? He stood there indecisively, watching as the creature slowly crept away from him, its squeaking getting softer and softer until it disappeared completely into the darkness of his room. He stood there for a few more moments, his mind racing with thoughts of what could have been living in his apartment all this time. And then he heard another sound, this time coming from his closet. His breath hitched in his throat as he slowly opened the door, bracing himself for the worst.

Inside his closet was another creature, this one larger than the first. It was about the size of a small dog, with rough green skin and glowing red eyes. It hissed at him, baring its sharp teeth. The young man backed away slowly, his heart racing. He knew he had to get rid of these creatures, but he had no idea how. He stood there, frozen in fear, as another creature, even larger than the first two, emerged from the shadows. This one was human-sized, with scaly skin and wings that stretched out behind it. It let out a roar that shook the very foundations of his apartment. The young man knew he had to get out of there—he had to get help. He turned and ran out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him. His breath came in short gasps as he ran down the stairs and out into the stormy night, not looking back. He knew that whatever was behind him, it was too terrifying to face alone.

As the young man ran through the storm, he couldn't shake the feeling that the creatures weren't just after him—they were after something else. Something that he had inadvertently disturbed. Whatever it was, he knew it would be dangerous. He kept running, the rain soaking his clothes and the thunder shaking the ground beneath his feet. He didn't stop until he reached the nearest 24-hour convenience store, where he collapsed on the floor, panting and trembling. He looked up at the store clerk, his eyes wide with fear. "Help me," he gasped. "There are monsters in my apartment." The clerk looked at him skeptically, but the young man's terrified expression told him otherwise. He called the police, and as they waited for them to arrive, the young man tried to piece together what had happened. He had been living in his apartment for more than a year now—how could there be monsters living there all this time? And why were they after him? He shook his head, trying to clear the image of the creatures from his mind. As the police cars screeched to a halt outside the convenience store, he knew that he was about to find out the truth—and he wasn't sure if he was ready for it.
