https://k2s.cc/file/0dbf47cb58d33 With a sigh, Daisuke sat at his desk, staring blankly at the computer screen in front of him. He hated Mondays, but especially today. The office was unusually quiet, almost eerie, with only the occasional click of a keyboard or rustle of paper to break the silence. It was as if everyone was holding their breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop. And drop it surely would. Daisuke knew that better than anyone. He had been working at this company for nearly a decade, starting as a lowly intern and working his way up the corporate ladder. He was proud of his accomplishments, but lately, things had changed. There was a new vice president in town, a woman named Yukari who was young, beautiful, and ruthless. She had arrived three months ago, and ever since, Daisuke felt like he was walking on eggshells. She had made it clear that she wasn't impressed by his credentials or his experience, and he had the feeling she was gunning for him. Daisuke rubbed his temples, trying to ease the tension that was building inside him. He couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen, but he couldn't put his finger on what exactly. He had been working late every night, trying to impress her with his dedication, but it seemed to be falling on deaf ears. Suddenly, there was a knock on his office door. Daisuke sat up straighter, hoping it was Yukari coming to finally acknowledge his hard work. But when he turned around, he saw it was just his assistant, Naomi. She was a bright-eyed young woman, new to the company and eager to please. Daisuke had always liked her, even if she was a bit clumsy at times. "Yes, Naomi?" he asked, trying to keep the annoyance out of his voice. He'd rather be alone right now, stewing in his own thoughts. "Um, well, there's a package here for you," she said, handing him a small box wrapped in brown paper. Daisuke looked at it curiously but didn't say anything. He knew better than to ask questions when it came to office politics. "Thank you, Naomi," he said, nodding at her. She turned to leave, but then stopped and cleared her throat. "Oh, and, um, there's also a message for you. It's from Yukari." Daisuke's heart sank. This couldn't be good. "What does it say?" he asked cautiously. "It just says to meet her in her office as soon as possible," Naomi replied, her voice shaking slightly. Daisuke nodded, feeling a knot forming in his stomach. He knew what this was about. He took a deep breath and stood up, trying to steel himself for whatever was coming next. Daisuke walked down the hall to Yukari's office, his footsteps echoing off the sterile white walls. He could feel the weight of the package in his hand, a constant reminder of how fragile his position was. As he approached Yukari's office, he could hear muffled voices coming from inside. He took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Yukari was sitting behind her desk, her expression unreadable. She looked up at Daisuke, her eyes boring into him. To his left was Naomi, looking nervous and out of place. To his right was another man, someone Daisuke didn't recognize. He was tall, well-built, with a perpetual smirk on his face. Daisuke got the feeling he was the reason for this meeting. "Daisuke," Yukari said, her voice cold and impassive. "I'd like you to meet our new marketing director, Ryu." Daisuke forced a smile, extending his hand to shake. Ryu's grip was firm but not overly so, and his smile never left his face. Daisuke could feel the heat rising in his cheeks as he realized what was happening. "It's an honor to meet you, Ryu," he said, his voice cracking slightly. He could feel the anger building up inside him, the frustration of knowing that he had been betrayed by someone he thought was on his side. But he couldn't show it. Not yet. "Likewise," Ryu replied, his eyes never leaving Daisuke's face. Daisuke could feel the tension in the room thicken, and he wondered how long it would be before the other shoe finally dropped. And then Yukari spoke. "Daisuke," she said, leaning back in her chair. "We've been noticing some... inconsistencies in your work performance lately. Things just haven't been up to par." Daisuke's heart sank. He knew what was coming next. "With that in mind," Yukari continued, "we've decided to promote Ryu to the head of the marketing department. Effective immediately." Daisuke felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. He had been expecting some kind of reprimand, maybe a warning or a demotion, but this? This was a complete and total betrayal. He looked at Ryu, trying to read his expression, but it remained unchanged. He looked at Naomi, hoping for some kind of support, but she was staring at the floor, her face flushed with embarrassment. Daisuke took a deep breath and tried to maintain his composure. "I see," he said, his voice sounding hollow even to his own ears. "Well, congratulations, Ryu. I'm sure you'll do a great job." Ryu smiled, his eyes never leaving Daisuke's face. "Thank you, Daisuke," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm sure we'll work together just fine." Daisuke nodded, feeling the weight of the package in his hand grow heavier by the second. He knew what he had to do. "Thank you for your time, Yukari," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "I'll be on my way." He turned around and walked out of the office, closing the door behind him. As he walked down the hall, he could hear Yukari and Ryu's laughter echoing in his ears. Daisuke made his way back to his office, his mind spinning with thoughts of revenge and betrayal. He sat down at his desk, setting the package on the floor. He took a deep breath and opened it. Inside was a letter, handwritten on high-quality stationary. He unfolded it slowly, his heart racing with anticipation. The letter was short and to the point. It was a blackmail letter, threatening to expose Daisuke's darkest secret if he didn't leave the company immediately. Daisuke felt a chill run down his spine. He knew who it was from. It was from Ryu. He looked at the package on the floor and realized what this was all about. Ryu wasn't just being promoted; he was being groomed to take over the company. And the only way to do that was to get rid of Daisuke. Daisuke looked around his office, taking in the sterile white walls and the cold, impersonal decor. He felt like he was in a nightmare, a game of corporate chess where the stakes were life and death. He knew he had to make a decision. He could play along, do as Ryu said, and disappear from the company, never to be heard from again. Or he could fight back, expose Ryu for the fraud he was, and claim his rightful place at the top of the corporate ladder. But the question was, at what cost? Daisuke closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to clear his mind. He knew what he had to do. He had to play the game, for now. But he also knew that this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
