"I-I'll do anything," she said, her voice trembling. "I really need this chance." The woman's eyes glinted with amusement.
"I think you'll find that this isn't just any chance, Courtney," she said, leaning in closer still. "This is a chance to serve someone who has the power to make or break you. Are you ready for that?" Courtney swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew this was a risky game she was playing, but the stakes were too high to turn back now.
"Yes," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'm ready."
