Meek to Myth: Chapter 9
Nathaniel awoke suddenly, his heart pounding in his chest. He looked around, disoriented. He was in a tent with flaps open, revealing a moonlit scene of trees and stars. Realizing he was at the camping trip with Emily and their friends, he let out a sigh of relief. His dream had felt so real, like something out of one of Emily's stories.
He shifted on the hard ground, trying to get comfortable. As he closed his eyes again, he couldn't help but think about her tales of giants. They were captivating, but he never thought they could be real. He wondered if Emily was awake, maybe she could tell him another story.
Nathaniel crawled out of the tent and made his way to where Emily was sleeping. He knelt beside her, feeling a sudden rush of nervousness. She looked so peaceful in the moonlight, her blonde hair fanned out around her head like an angel's halo. As he watched her, he couldn't help but feel drawn to her.
Quietly, he spoke her name. "Emily?" No response. He tried again, a little louder this time. "Emily?" Still nothing. He shook his head, chalking it up to the fact that she was probably just really deep asleep. Maybe she would be more responsive in the morning.
He stood up and began to walk away when he heard a soft, almost inaudible whisper. "Yes?" It was Emily. She was awake.
Nathaniel turned around, feeling a mix of trepidation and excitement. "Can I... Can I tell you a secret?" He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Emily propped herself up on one elbow, her eyes gleaming in the moonlight. "Of course," she replied, her voice hushed.
Nathaniel took a deep breath. "I had a dream," he began, "about giants." He hesitated, wondering how she would react. But Emily only nodded, her face filled with understanding.
"Tell me about it," she said softly, curling back into her sleeping bag.
And so, Nathaniel began to tell Emily his dream. He told her about the towering giants, their enormous feet shaking the very ground they walked on. He described the feeling of fear and awe mixed together as he watched them from the distance. He shared every detail of the dream, hoping she would understand.
As he finished his story, he looked at Emily, waiting for her reaction. She was silent for a moment, her brow furrowed in thought. Finally, she spoke. "It sounds like you had quite an adventure in your dream," she said with a small smile. "And who knows, maybe one day we'll have an adventure like that for real."
Nathaniel felt a jolt of surprise. Did she really just say that? Was she suggesting they could actually encounter giants? He hesitated, not sure how to respond.
Emily sensed his confusion. "Don't worry, I'm just teasing," she laughed softly. "But you never know, stranger things have happened." She paused, looking up at the stars. "Maybe one day we'll have our own stories to tell about the giants."
Nathaniel felt himself relax a bit. He knew Emily was just playing, but the thought of actually encountering giants still lingered in the back of his mind. As he watched her, he realized that he didn't just find Emily fascinating because of her stories; he found her irresistible. He couldn't help but feel drawn to her, like she held some kind of secret power over him.
But before he could dwell on these thoughts any further, sleep claimed him once again, leaving him to dream of towering giants and the girl with the captivating stories.
