The Thief
Ashley stood on the rooftop, her heart pounding as she surveyed the city below. The cool night air kissed her bare skin, and she shivered slightly. She was dressed in a skimpy black leather outfit that left little to the imagination, complete with thigh-high boots and a sleek cat-suit. A pair of gloves covered her hands, hiding the anxiety that trembled within them.
She had been warned that this job was risky, but she needed the money. Desperately. A wave of despair washed over her as she thought about her mounting debts and the threats from her creditors. Steeling herself, she looked back down at the building below, its windows glinting in the moonlight. This was her chance for redemption, her one shot at turning things around.
Slowly, Ashley lowered herself onto the edge of the roof, feeling the cold brick under her fingers. She took a deep breath, mustering up all the courage she had left. Then, with one swift movement, she propelled herself into the darkness, her body falling gracefully towards the ground below.
Landing lightly on her feet, Ashley dashed towards the nearest wall, pressing herself against it. Her eyes scanned the shadows, searching for any signs of movement. The room was empty, and she breathed a sigh of relief. This was going to be easier than she thought.
Moving silently through the darkness, Ashley made her way towards the safe she had come to steal. It was an old-fashioned model, sticking out like a sore thumb among all the modern technology surrounding it. With deft hands, she began to work on the combination lock, her fingers flying over the dial.
After what felt like an eternity, the safe clicked open, and Ashley's heart leaped with excitement. She reached inside, feeling around for the items she had been told to steal. As her hand touched the cold metal of a briefcase, she pulled it out, her fingers closing around it tightly.
Just as she was about to replace the briefcase and close the safe, she heard footsteps approaching from down the hall. Panic surged through her veins as she realized someone had caught her in the act. Swiftly, she hid the briefcase under her arm, her heart pounding like a drum.
The footsteps grew closer, and Ashley's breath came out in short, ragged gasps. She peeked around the corner, her eyes widening in fear as she saw a guard walking towards her. He was tall and broad-shouldered, his gaze fixed on the empty safe.
Her mind raced, trying to think of an excuse for being there. But before she could say anything, the guard spoke, his voice cold and unyielding. "What are you doing here?" he demanded, stepping closer.
Ashley swallowed hard, her throat dry. "I... I was looking for something," she stammered, struggling to keep her voice steady. "I must have taken a wrong turn."
The guard narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying her excuse. "I don't think so," he said, his gaze flickering to the safe. "The safe is open. You were going to steal something, weren't you?"
Ashley's heart sank. She knew she couldn't lie her way out of this. "Yes," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry, I needed the money. Please, don't call the police."
The guard considered her for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, slowly, he shook his head. "I can't let you get away with this," he said, reaching for his radio. "But I'll make it look like you never made it out of here."
With that, the guard turned and walked away, his radio squawking to life as he contacted his superiors. Ashley stood there, frozen in place, the briefcase still clutched to her chest. She knew she had just sealed her fate, but she couldn't help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. Maybe, just maybe, this would be the end of her misery.
